About

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Alice Fung arrived in the US the year of its bicentennial.

She studied art and urban studies at Oberlin College, and architecture at UCLA. She is a founding principal of FUNG + BLATT Architects whose works prioritize the human experience, connection to place and investigate diverse patterns of habitation.

This site features her work beyond the traditional bounds of architecture which began with a line of ‘liveables’ and wearables. These functional objects were inspired by industrial cast-offs and the imperative that product and by-product command equal focus. Her art comes from the impetus to calibrate that balance, and to explore material, structure and pattern-generation at the intersection of machine and craft.

Alice works with her hands to discover connections and relationships, uncovering poetry and meaning in the process. Her artwork, which she refers to as ‘artifacts’, are the byproduct of that investigation.
